Can(ne) have it all!

The history of Cannes festival is filled with scandals, but they didn’t damaged the reputation of the biggest movie parade on the world; on a contrary, the reputation got even bigger and it is gathering all the stars and it has a huge media support.
The last French producer who had won the Gold palm in Cannes, Maurice Pialat in 1987, was hissed off the stage for category the best movie “Sous le Soleil de Satan” (Under the Sun of Satan). The story is about a priest who doubts his faith and turns to the devil. His response to the public is still well known to everyone who tracks this festival: “You should know that if you don’t like me, neither do I like you”!
In 2007 festival tribute to this great director a projection of one movie “A nos amorours” (Love exists), 1983, in the public was his widow Sylvie, son Anton and actor Gerard Depardieu who often played in his movies.
Among the movies with the similar destiny is “La dolce vita” (The sweet life) of the famous Italian director Federico Fellini. The first projection of this film was here in Cannes in 1960, and was not taken so well from Vatican, and the picky public in Cannes didn’t responded so well either. The famous and now even the cult scene when Anita Ekberg is swimming in a fountain in Rome became the synonym for this movie.
Another Italian director Marco Ferreri and another scandalous movie “La grande abbuffata” (The big feast) 1973, where the director is being sarcastic and projecting a grotesque diner. Four friends dining in a Paris villa: Marcello Mastroianni, Michel Piccoli, Philippe Noiret, Michel Piccoli and others. Film got the international award.
Documentary movie “In bed with Madonna” or you may know it as “True or dare” by Alek Keshishian 1991, brought a huge amount of fans into Cannes.
Thirteen years later another American documentary film was controversy and won the Golden palm. Fahrenheit 9/11, directed by Michael Moore. With Ben Affleck, Stevie Wonder, George W. Bush. Michael Moore’s view on what happened to the United States after September 11.
Film “Crash” by Canadian director David Cronenberg 1996, made a lot of public angry, and not few of them have left the movie projection. After getting into a serious car accident, a TV director discovers an underground sub-culture of scarred, omni sexual car-crash victims who use car accidents and the raw sexual energy they produce to try to rejuvenate his sex life with his wife. But…movie has won the special award from the jury, which was not accepted among public.
50th festival in 1997 was marked by resignation from public toward the violent scenes in Austrian film “Funny games” by Michael Haneke and French film “Assassin” by Mathieu Kassovitz.
